Names of God: Jehovah Jirah

The book of Genesis tells the horrendous choice the Israelite patriarch Abraham faced. God asked Abraham if he was strong enough to offer his own son as a sacrifice to Him. Not only was this Abraham's only son, but he was now almost 100 years old. The miracle child born when he was 90, faced an early death. 

The Bible tells us that this was a test by God to see Abraham's total trust of the Almighty. Abraham, trusting that God's best would be accomplished, took Isaac to the tip of the mountain, gathered wood for a fire and prepared the alter—the death of Isaac was only moments away. 

God now knew He had Abraham's total trust and stopped the death of Isaac by providing a ram as the offering. God finishes His words to Abraham by saying, "You were willing to offer the Lord your only son, and so I make this solemn promise, 'You have obeyed me, and so you and your descendants will be a blessing to all nations on earth." Abraham's belief in God was so strong, that Abraham named God as Jehovah Jireh, the Lord will provide. 

Romans adds, "If God is on our side, can anyone be against us? God did not keep back His own Son but gave Him as a sacrifice for us. If God did this, won't he freely give us everything else?" (Romans 8:31-32) 

At the point of desperation, Jehovah Jireh was the solution. Jehovah-Jireh desires the same relationship with each of us. A relationship that knows God has our very best planned. All He asks is for our total trust.
